The ABC’s of Science – sundays 4:30-5:20 PM, ages 4-6

Each week, we learn a different letter of the alphabet and do a science experiment or challenge exploring a scientific concept that starts with that letter. This year, we explored Volcanoes by erupting a model, grew Crystals, watched the effects of Yeast in different temperatures of water and dough and did 23 other fascinating experiments while learning how to write and recognize the English letters.

Open studio masters – tuesdays 3:45-5 pm, grades 4-7

Children are exposed to a number of different art modalities and techniques, supported and empowered to choose their own projects. They are accompanied by Avigayle Adler, Open Studio Founder and Director in whatever projects they would like to explore including but not limited to: Mosaics, Glass Painting, Jewelry Making, Painting & Drawing, Sculpture, Fabric Arts, Papercutting and more.

open studio juniors – wednesdays 4:30-5:30 pm, ages 5-7

Children engage with the Jewish year by working on various projects which can correspond to the upcoming holidays. In the fall, we usually start by exploring paper art and sculpture, creating new years greeting cards. Then we move onto wood projects and sewing. Children have the opportunity to make mobiles, papercuts, and pillows for their sukkot. Before Hanukkah, we engage in a unit on glass painting. We also practice jewelry making. This allows the children to make their own Hanukkiah and gifts for family and friends. Guess what we do on Purim…That’s right! – We create our own costumes and so on throughout the year. We also explore ideas behind the basic elements of art; Color, Shape, Texture, Value, etc. and children are encouraged to create a style of their own. The emphasis is put on the process of creating rather than the finished product. However the finished product is usually a functional object that quickly becomes a family treasure.

Our family is so happy that there is a place in Jerusalem like The Open Studio. The creativity that is fostered in this studio is incredible. Each week our kids were free to imagine, and explore art techniques. Avigayle is amazing at encouraging kids to create and re-create whatever art come to their fun little brains. She gives them parameters and then helps them as needed in whatever direction they want to take it. Our son learned so much about science in the the Science of Art class. It was fascinating to me as well. We were only in town for a year, but “The Studio” quickly became a favorite, welcoming place. English and Hebrew are both welcomed easily here, which was definitely helpful for our family. We love you Open Studio! – Angie, Dallas TX

“Avigayle’s “Monster camp” empowered my children to see themselves as artists, and they basked in the glory of their monster creations. With foresight and creativity, Avigayle fashioned a program that encompassed many forms of art and allowed for valuable self-expression. My six-year-old and four-year-old sons had a great time and grew immensely from the experience. It is apparent how much Avigayle enjoys the children and how skilled she is at understanding who each one is–his/her spirit, and what makes him/her sing inside. Send your child to Avigayle: you will be so glad that you did.”
-Ruth Ebenstein, mother of three, Jerusalem
