Welcome to The Open Studio, where your child will find his or her way through a hub or inspiration, support and opportunities to be creative, to learn, make friends and to bring out his or her own inner artist. Chugim located at the Open Studio (HaPalmach 33) begin the week of September 2. This year we will be offering our chugim in 4 locations throughout southern Jerusalem. While the art (read messy) chugim will continue to take place at The Open Studio’s home on Hapalmach street, we will also be offering chugim in English (with the Open Studio’s creative flair) at Beit Yehudit (on Emek Refaim), the New Katamon-Kiryat Moshe Community Center (Hapalmach 53) and at the Yehuda HaLevy School (Elroyi).

Open Studio – Wednesdays 15:00-16:15
Our namesake program. Children are given lots of ideas and inspiration to try out various techniques and art forms while focusing on alternating elements of art: color, shape, line, texture and value. For the first half of the year, we introduce and teach skills in various art forms such as: paper arts, glass and mosaic arts, textiles and fabric, jewelry making, painting & drawing, sculpture and more. As the year goes on, the children are given more choices and eventually design their own long-term projects. Grades 2-5

Same as above, but with a bit more structure, and a focus on the elements of art: color, line, shape, texture and value. Gan Chova-Grade 2
Open Studio Masters – Wednesdays 18:00-19:30
Same as above, but with a bit more time and free choice. Pre-teens and teens are empowered and encouraged to explore their individuality, creativity and confidence. We start each session with a 10 minute art meditation, where students are encouraged to create in their sketchbooks using only the materials provided. Ages 11-15.
Painting & Drawing – Mondays 18:00-19:15
We will explore the elements of art and drawing using the 5 elements of art as our guide and will work in pencil, charcoal, chalks, watercolors, and acrylics. We will learn and work in various techniques representing realistic forms such as landscapes, still-life and perspective.
